This is a lamp rated by manufacturer to be 130 volts for operation on a 130 volt electrical line. The manufacturer marks and rates the lamp for users who will operate this lamp on a 130 volt circuit, for which it is recommended in order to achieve all the rating applied to this lamp. Unfortunately, when one uses this product at their home or business voltage which would typically be 120 volt or slightly less, one burns the lamp under the rated voltage. The result is that the expected bright whitish halogen lamp they think they are buying turns out to use 14% fewer watts because the filament is not being given the full voltage it needs to deliver full brightness. Worse yet is the fact that the filament produces a 28% reduction in brightness and yellower color, negating some of the hoped for advantage of a halogen lamp as compared to an incandescent lamp. This review is from: Sylvania 14785 - 75PAR30LN/CAP/WFL50 130V PAR30 Halogen Light Bulb I needed 5 name brand replacement bulbs. Bulbamerica was the best deal for 5 bulbs even with a shipping charge. The bulbs arrived on time and were as advertised.
A previous reviewer commented on the 130 volt rating and he was right. But a guy in the electrical supply business told me that any brand of these bulbs now must be rated at 130volt per government edict. When installed on 120 volt line they give less light and they use less energy. All incandescents will be outlawed by 2013 I believe. |
