These days, I only buy green fluorescent bulbs BUT I appreciate good design & fabulous light too. Now, in your important areas, spring for the extra on your energy bill (& in this case $10-$15 on the bulb too) for aesthetics. It's important & it's worth it. I am a mondern classic gal...not victorian. I used a plain ole' hanging wire & this bulb (just hung it with a hook in the ceiling) in my bathroom for extra light & ambience (baths, dressing). The early "invention" look of this bulb ads to my minimal wire & screw in bulb fixture & somehow makes it work-as cheap as it may be ;-) Hence--The expensive bulb makes the $10 fixture go from cheap to "posh"...so you save your fancy chandelier money! It all balances out in the end!

Looking for a change from the harsh CFL's I have in 2 of my living room torchlight lamps and these did the trick. Warm lighting for backlit areas, and hey it's retro ubercool. For 40W they throw off a lot of light, and it mellows the off white walls a bit. Trying the lamps sans shades for a few days and I like what I'm seeing, reminds me of my great-grand's farmhouse lights.
Sidenote; I tried getting these locally, not even the Home Depot had them in stock and the quoted price if they ordered the bulb was over $14. Amazon is great!
