I purchased these GE 150 watt halogen bulbs because they'll work with a dimmer switch (Compact fluorescent lamps that will work with a dimmer switch are still hard to find and expensive) and they'll last quite a bit longer than the standard incandescent bulb, it'll be replacing a 200 watt incandescent bulb in the kitchen/breakfast area. This halogen bulb is more expensive than the standard bulb it's replacing but I'm hoping that the extended life will offset the price difference.

Unlike compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), these halogen bulbs are instant-on and full brightness when you throw the switch. For those who live in the snowy part of the country, these halogen bulbs are perfect for the garage or exterior lighting in the winter months whereas the CFLs really struggle in the cold, sure you can buy CFLs that will work in the freezing cold but be prepared to pay a lot more for them.

I'm getting older now, and light is important. These guys throw off some serious brightness.

They aren't super cheap, but if lumens are important to you, this the bulb.

Great in the winter time too, throws off some heating BTUs also. It is somewhat low profile compared to the traditional bulb, and looks more hi-tech.

I'm going to order some more right now.

This bulb burned out after six months of use. It was in a lamp that was not used a lot. Would not recommend. There are better longer lasting bulbs on the market.
