These bulbs are a good replacement for the conventional tungsten filament GE 90W Misr BR40 bulbs that came with my 25 year old house, since you can't buy the conventional bulbs any more. CFLs won't fit the fixtures without some sort of neck extender, and are the wrong color temperature. Dimmable LEDs fit but are totally the wrong color temperature...brilliant blue white even when dimmed. These are 85W 125V bulbs, that supposedly produce 80W and last 8000 hours at 120V. I can't address the lifetime, but if true, it makes them an excellent deal. What I can address is the appearance of the light, which is a bit brighter and cooler than the orignal (now 6 year old) incandescent bulbs, but very close. Quite 'warm' for a halogen light...probably because they're running at 120V instead of 125V. One caution is that they are frosted, but not as much as the original GE bulbs... if you look straight up into the bulb when it is bright, you may find it too bright. None of mine are...Read more
