Summary: iConvert has it's ups and downs 2009-03-09
Comment: I purchased this from a Brookstone store. I wish they had said on the box that it was not compatible with 62-bit, even though I have a 32-bit system I might have thought about this in terms of thinking about upgrading in the future.
Anyway, I rated this a three because of that and speed.
I did not seem to have the extreme problems that a lot of people had. It worked fine when I loaded it, I didn't have to use the manual, just figured it out from screen information.
It is slow, that I will give you, but I did not encounter the slowness that some people did. I did an entire tray of slides while watching tv, took me maybe 1 1/2 hours, but I knew it was going to be labor intensive because you are doing 1 slide at a time. What is cumbersome is that the slide holder only holds three slides. Would be nice if it held more. I tested it on negatives also, it worked.
The software has some neat features like batch renaming, file type conversion... which I liked.
As for the quality of the pics, so far OK. I mean they look good when I view them on the computer screen and I've Facebooked and emailed a couple that are ok. Not the same quality as the original slide and some color change, but they are very presentable. I have not tested printing on paper yet, but I don't have the greatest printer in the world anyway.
All in all I have to weigh out what it would have cost me to have my slides down by a business, and the time they would have taken, I think the $99 was worth it. After I convert my slides I will only be using it for negatives and I have a lot more negatives than slides! But I have a decent amount of slides.
So... bottom line, I give it a 3 out of 5 because of the slowness and the fact that the company does not tell you up-front (on the box people!) that it is not compatible with a 62-bit system.
I would recommend it after I pointed out the above to anyone.

Summary: BUYER BEWARE!!! 2009-03-05
Comment: Scan quality was terrible. Scan results were nowhere near the quality of the slides as shown from a slide projector. Colors weren't true, contrast was terrible, results were not in focus, and the included photo editing would not fix the problems. The instructions were incomplete. You had to figure out what to do next yourself. This product should never have come to market, and Brookstone should never have let it be sold. Hopefully they will not restock this item.

Summary: Poor Scanner 2009-02-28
Comment: The scanner does a poor job of scanning the slides accurately. Whenever there is sky in the slide, the scanner creates a teal spot that does not appear on the slide. Everything comes out with too much blue in it. Also lots of black spots on the scan if you don't clean the scanner between every slide.

Summary: Terrible Product 2009-01-29
Comment: Product came with incomplete instructions. After I found out how it was supposed to be used I also found out it doesn't work well. It would take about 10-15 minutes each slide to fix the scan to where it was somewhat acceptable. Even then I wouldn't print them.
Brookstone was less than amiable when I went to return it.
Save your money!

Summary: Not good at all 2009-01-27
Comment: This scanner was given to me by my son for Christmas. I finally got around to using it and it is really awful. I have wasted 3 or 4 days already trying to make it scan decently. The quality is very poor and the color balance is terrible. The pictures are so washed out it isn't worth the time and effort. I have many many slides to covert and I was excited that I might finally be able to get them on a digital disk. My son gave me no receipt. I took this back to Brookstone and they said I could not have a refund and if it had been more than 30 days it would be too late anyway. They did give me an even exchange though. I tried again with the new ICONVERT, reinstalling the software for a fresh start. The new one behaved exactly the same as the first one did. I am now stuck with a very poor product. I do not want to disappoint my son so I will most likely investigate what to buy that will do the job and get started scanning. This product is worthless for me. Brookstone isn't prepared to help me so it is a total loss.
