Summary: Piece of Crud! 2010-08-05
Comment: I was given both the Iconvert photo scanner and negative/slide scanner for Christmas a couple of years ago. I first tried to load the software on a 64 bit Vista computer and it would not work. It took me forever to figure out why it would not work, I assumed I was not doing something correctly, however once I figured out that was the problem, I decided that I would use it with my 32 bit computer, however that computer has Windows 7 loaded and again it does not work.
I was able to scan 2 pictures from the photo scanner before I became so frustrated that I gave up and the light source in the scanner washed out the entire picture so it too was of no use.
I have called Brookstone and of course because I took too long in trying different computers etc there is no way I can get a replacement and there are no upgrades available.
If I could give this no stars I would.

Summary: Perfect Solution 2010-05-02
Comment: I got this last night, and in about an hour I digitized about 50 slides, including time to decide another 50 weren't worth transferring. I use a Mac, an Intel-based MacBook Pro, and for me the setup of the computer was effortless. The instructions, however, are overly broad, and it took me a good ten slides to figure out the most efficient workflow routine. I'm sure that more expensive devices have more bells and whistles, but I was very happy with the results on slides that dated from the early 70's. For my needs, the device is perfect.
I would recommend that if you have any concerns, bring your laptop to the Brookstone store with a half-dozen slides, and let them make it work for you. I found their salespeople in our local store to be very helpful. If you can get there at a slow time, I'm sure they'd demonstrate it for you, and get you comfortable.

Summary: Don't waste your money 2010-03-09
Comment: Truly a piece of trash. Finiky to load in Windows XP, lousy control, excessively loooong wait times to scan slides and problematic in use.
Do not waste tim or money on this piece of garbage.

Summary: Slooooow, hard to center slides 2010-02-17
Comment: Pros: NONE
Cons: Not enough light for darker slides, have to scan and reposition slides
in the carrier to get MOST of the slide in. Took THREE tries on each
slide tray to get it right and took me 20 minutes; I'll be dead and
gone before I can slide my hundreds of slides in.
Color Resolution/Depth and LED light are inadequate.
Software is terrible.
Store policy on returns is right from Hell! I received this as a
gift; even if you have a "gift receipt", they won't give you money,
just a store credit for their overpriced junk. This not stated
anywhere on their recipes; it's "just policy".
Imagine calling the person, who gave you the gift, and saying "I'm
returning the piece of Brookstone expensive junk you gave me and I
need your credit card number; Brookstone will credit your Credit Card
and you can send me the money".
Employees are pushed to sell hard get customers to buy more useless
junk like a "useless" (and expensive) extended warranty.
"Customer Service" should be renamed "Reasons you are wrong and we
cannot help you".
Take it to "higher management" and things get worse.

Summary: Brookstone Slide & Negative Scanner DOES NOT WORK 2010-02-01
Comment: I purchased this item from a Brookstone Store in Dallas for use with a Windows XP computer. I immediately ran into trouble with the old outdated software packaged with the item. Apparently, the software is not compatible with Windows XP or later. There are no updated drivers that will make it work with Windows. Even the software packaged with it is no longer supported. When I tried to scan some slides the images jumped around and I never could find a way to scan a slide with it. Brookstone is well aware of this problem but continues to sell it, insisting that they would never sell something that didn't work. Just Google it and see the truth.
