OttLite floor lamps have TWO kinds of bulbs, the regular kind that screw in, or "self-ballasted" (that plug in.) No way can I find the ballasted 25 watt bulb that came with my OttLite, so guess its discontinued. THIS ONE IS JUST AS BRIGHT! And REMEMBER (for the floor lamps at least) OttLites have TWO KINDS OF BALLASTED bulbs: one with OFFSET plugs on the bottom, the other with plugs directly ACROSS from each other, also on the bottom. THIS ONE IS THE OFFSET-plugs BALLASTED KIND! (Emphasis mine, because I had to learn the difference the hard way.) Since these bulbs last so long (10,000 hours) consider buying SEVERAL to store for the future, because the lamps themselves are ETERNAL - at least my 5 year old one is lasting like forever.
By the way, I diligently recorded the details, item number, bulb size, etc, off my first Ottlite, but years later supplies were no where to be found, so thats another reason to stock up. I also use electrical tape to secure the bulb after it is...Read more

Looking for a computer light that would be best to edit photos with, I came across Ottlite information. They had a sale on the lamp, so I bought it 18 months ago.

Now the bulb blew out, although rated for 10,000 hours. Ottlite says the 25w replacement won't be available for months, and offered me the special deal of $20 + shipping in the alternative [Amazon is $18 + free shipping]. They also says NOW that each time you turn it on, it subtracts 8 hours from the bulb life. Nowhere on their site do they say this that I could find. She also recommended leaving the light on if you were going to be out of the room for less than an hour, which to me defeats the whole purpose of having an energy-saving CFL.

Ottlite may have had some proprietary light idea years ago, but with all the improvements made recently with other universal screw-type bulbs, I doubt it now. And to not even have a supply of bulbs for months is crazy, and to charge the incredible price for them...Read more

Non-glare, almost like natural light. Minimal heat from bulb, even if left on several hours. Allows you to see true colors.
