Summary: Highly recommend, my lightbulb of choice. 2010-08-11
Comment: I highly recommend these bulbs. This bulb uses 70W but produces 1600 lumens (similar to a standard 100W bulb) and lasts 3,000 hours. Plus they are dimmable. I've also never had a problem with them fitting a standard A19 bulb fixture. I have many fixtures that compact flourescents won't fit in. I also have dimmable fixtures. These bulbs give me much of the energy savings of a compact flourescent, but they don't have the fit problems and are dimmable.

Summary: The Marilyn Monroe or lightbulbs 2010-04-13
Comment: It provided a wonderful bright light, but it was extinguished much too early.
I have been using CFL bulbs in most fixtures and lamps in my home, but was concerned with using them in table lamps that were at risk of being knocked over. CFL bulbs contain mercury, and after an end table lamp was knocked over and the CFL broke I decided to stop using them in that lamp. These bulbs seemed the perfect compromise: no health risk, but lower energy use than standard incandescents. However, both bulbs stopped working suddenly after about 3-4 weeks of use. The bulbs are rated to last 3000 hours, but didn't last even 300 hours. At around $4-$5 per bulb, you can't possibly justify the purchase.
Unfortunately, I will have to return to using incandescent bulbs in these lamps.

Summary: Sadly, these bulbs are fragile. 2009-10-20
Comment: I recently purchased these bulbs and was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the light. However, when I lightly adjusted the lampshade yesterday, this lovely light went out--the bulb had been in place for just a few weeks! I do not plan on replenishing my supply of these bulbs when it is depleted--back to the drawing board for Philips!

Comment: Not padded sufficiently, arrived broken. May not be a item that you should buy online.

Summary: Finally a non fluorescent energy saving bulb. 2009-07-22
Comment: Fluorescent lights 'are' more efficient than these but I just do not care for the funny colored light the fluorescent bulbs put out. I screwed one of these 70w Halogena bulbs in next to a standard 100w soft white bulb, in a dual light fixture, and could not tell the difference in brightness, the color was slightly more yellow (it was hard too see the difference). A big plus for me is that these bulbs work with my existing dimmer switches. :) I plan to order more in the near future. Save some energy and keep the ability to dim your lighting, the best of both worlds.
