This type bulb is great for saving electricity. I've had this one for over a year and it's still working perfectly. It puts out a good amount of light in lamps or downlights where you need task lighting for reading. Like most fluorescents, it takes a few minutes to come to full brightness. These will work fine in any light globe that has an open end where the length is no problem. However, take note, it does not fit some of the enclosed ceiling lights, including some newer ceiling fan light kits that call for candleabra base bulbs. This measures 4 1/4" and is too long for some of those light globes. (Most needs to be 4" or shorter to fit.)

These bulbs took a bit to warm up and come up to full brightness which was great in the morning when my eyes were adjusting, but inconvenient any other time. One by one these bulbs "stopped working" after about 3 - 4 months. I say stopped working, because they didn't burn out. The ballast (a switch built into the base of fluorescent bulbs) seemed to go out. One of the bulbs would go on and off if you thumped it. After three of the six bulbs went out, I went and bought "normal" incandescent bulbs for the bathroom. Also, these bulbs were much, much more expensive and not worth it. Don't waste your money.
Hard to find bright round candelabra base bulbs save $$$.,

Our compact fluorescent conversion is almost complete with these 9 watt (40 equivalent) replacements for the 25 w incandescents. They take a few seconds to warm up to full light but this is not a problem. 5 of them in a fixture provide much more light at about 1/3 the cost/ consumption.
