3.0 out of 5 stars pleased so far, August 22, 2010

so... this thing seems to work. i bought it to catch the occasional mosquito that finds its way into my place and terrorizes me at night. the first night i had it, i tested it outside and found a few skeeters as well as a few other little winged pests inside. i've since tested it inside; i leave it running at night, so it's the only light on. it's more or less silent. i also leave it running while i'm at work. one thing to consider, is that this thing uses a fan to suck the pests in... if you turn it off, the fan turns off, which means the prisoners can escape. so your options are to either wait until they die (included instructions claims 8 hours, but i'm not so convinced of this), find a method to cover the top while you take it outside to release them, or just leave it running all the time. i've been experimenting with placing some packing tape (sticky side up) in the collection chamber. this seems to work sometimes, sometimes not. maybe some are stronger than others...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars seems to work well, September 17, 2010
This review is from: Viatek Products Mini Mosquito Trap (Health and Beauty)
I have been running this little skeeter vacuum lamp in the garage for the last week. It picks up 3-5 skeeters every night (and rarely other flying insects) that would otherwise enter our home from the garage. As noted in the other review not all skeeters are dead when I inspect the lamp in the mornings ... but they sure are not well. I am concerned about the proprietary, non-standard micro-neon bulb this device uses -- it has been working great but I just know it will eventually burn out. The device comes with a phone number to call (for replacement bulbs?) but they surely cannot be found on the web. I do recommend it for indoor and garage use. Using these lamps outside is generally not useful b/c they catch mostly moths.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally ineffective, May 28, 2011

My husband and I bought this to catch mosquitoes that were biting us while we slept. We turned it on relatively near us and spent a few nights getting no less bitten than before. While we didn't find the light terribly bothersome, we were both skeptical when we turned it on for the first time that a fan so weak could suck in anything. It didn't. After several days of continuous operation the only thing "dehydrated" at the bottom of the trap were pieces of lint. Totally ineffective.
