You will NOT be able to read a book or cook or perform other focusing activities very well. This reminds me of soft delicate warm candlelight, the type you see when the wick is burned at least a 1/4 of the way down in a fat pillar-type candle.
Rated for 100,000 hours - at 8 hrs per day, this should last 34 years ........ compared to any other bulb out there, this is a no brainer as long as you want to softly illuminate a space. I have 4 lamps with these installed and I need not worry if I leave them on for extended periods. Perfect for my downstairs area that can stay 'lit' for safety, without having to replace the typical 4-watt bulbs fairly often, when kept on 24/7. As long as you understand what it is for and realize the 1 watt of energy and 100K hrs benefit, this can't be beat. I have not had as much success with the white bulbs. It is not supposed to be bright, it's 1 watt. So I am giving it 5 stars to compensate for the 1 star ratings it now has.
