A small bulb that generates a very bright light. Be careful if your lighting fixture does not fully enclose this bulb because it does get extremely hot. One of my children threw a small Dixie cup onto the lighting fixture; the cardboard Dixie cup immediately burst into flames and charred the wall, necessitating a repainting job. These bulbs are hard to find in my local hardware stores so ideal to order from Amazon.
